David Rose's enjoyed a playing career was with Handsworth RFC in Birmingham, and then for Moseley, Wolverhampton and Walsall as a He played outside half or centre. He started refereeing in 1999 and went on to refereeing at premiership level from October 2003. In 2014 he was charged with fraudulently claiming benefits whilst working as a Premiership referee. Found guilty, he received a 12-month conditional discharge and a £700 fine. From February 2015, he took up a development role with England Netball."
