Joel Jutge's playing career came to an end in 1991 with a serious knee injury. He played for Colomiers as a scrum half, and later moved to Cahors before taking up the whistle. He made his international debut in 1999 when Italy hosted Romania. He retired as an on-field official in 2009 after failing to recover from a knee operation. All in all, he refereed 24 international matched. In 2012 was appointed as IRB's (now World Rugby's) High Performance Match Official Manager. "
