Greg Macdonald started refereeing in December 2008 whilst still playing for Moseley RFC in National Division 1, where he gained over 100 caps as an outside-half over his 10 year career. He retired from playing in February 2009 to concentrate on refereeing and was accepted on the National Panel of Referees in May 2010 and has been refereeing National 2 and National 1 games on a regular basis has as part of his time with the RFU Referee Academy. He's employed as a science teacher at a school in Staffordshire."
